Mumbai University trio of Shailesh Gangoda, Akshay Jitekar and Sunil Rathod bagged the 1-2-3 spots in the men’s energy sapping 5000m run on the 4th and concluding day of the Sunday Mornings Athletics meet, sponsored by Mumbai Suburban District Amateur Athletics Association (MSDAAA) and organized by Mumbai University in association with the India Masters Athletics at the University Stadium, Marine lines here today. Shailesh was way ahead of the trio as he clocked 16 minutes, 31.6 secs, followed by the other two, way behind to finish in that order.
While in the women’s section, Jayanti Devadiga ended with a double, having won the long jump and 100m run in the women’s section, while Mariya Karachiwala won accolades for winning the 100 and 200m sprints in the girls under-18 category.
The 14-year-old Darsh Shah, who earlier had won the boys under-16 discus throw event,claimed honours in the under-14 discus throw with ease. In another rare occurrence, Thane’s Vasant Vihar school girls Khushi Mahajan, Anshita Shetty and Ria Gupta took the first three places in the higlr sunder-16 high jump event.

SHOT PUT: 1. Natasha D’Mello (Khalsa Gymn, Matunga); 2. Shruti Vora (Khalsa Gym, Matunga); 3. Jyoti Karkera (Rising Star SC) . – 9.82 mts.
GIRLS U-18: 200m: 1. Mariya Karachiwala (Individual); 2. Madhu Parki (Jai Hind College); 3. Akshata Ghate (Individual). – 27.9 secs. U-16: 100m: 1.Siya Dawoor (Seven Stars, Thane); 2.
