Shahid Shaikh’s inspiring all-round performance with ball and bat, helped Greater Mumbai Sports Club ‘A’ to a comprehensive 7-wicket victory against HPCL CC in a second round league match of the MCA Inter-Corporation T20 Cricket Tournament, organised by Sahara Foundation and played at the HPCL ground, Mahul on Thursday. Shaikh grabbed two wickets for 21 runs and they scored a rapid 24-ball 69 runs to steer his team to victory.
Hosts HPCL who were put in to bat first were bundled out for a paltry 113 runs. Middle order bastman Hashir Dafedar top-scored with 32 runs, while Yogesh Jagtap picked up four wickets for 12 runs and was ably supported by Shaikh.
In reply, Mumbai Police innings got off to a rollicking start with opener Shaikh leading the charge and he blasted 9 boundaries 4 sixes during his quick fire knock. The other opening bat, Sunil Patil scored a quick 30 from 19 balls which included 2 hits to the fence and an equal number of sixes as the Policemen romped to an easy win, scoring 115 runs for 3 wickets in just 8 overs.
In the second match, Greater Mumbai Police ‘B’ also recorded an easy win defeating New Indian Assurance by six wickets. Electing to field first, the Mumbai cops did well to restrict new India Assurance to 109 for 8 wickets from their quota of 20 overs. Neel Kadam’s half century effort of 53 runs provided some respectability to their total. Mumbai Police easily reached their target scoring 110 for 4 wickets in 15.2 overs.

New India Assurance: 109 for 8 wickets, 20 overs (Neel Kadam 53(56balls); Swapnil Gharat 2/15, Rajesh Tandel 2/18) lost to Greater Mumbai Police SC ‘B’: 110 for 4 wickets, 15.2 overs (Rajesh Tandel 51*(37balls), Pradnesh Lad 34*(14balls); Vishwas Gaikwad 2/13). Result: GM Police ‘B’ won by 6 wickets.
