Sea View down Port Trust


Sea View SC forwards did a splendid job to convert the chances that came their way to complete a deserving 3-2 win against Mumbai Port Trust in an exciting men’s first round match of the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana 36th Invitation Rink Hockey Tournament – 2016, for the Late Victor D’Mello Memorial Trophy, and played at the Gymkhana’s floodlit tennis courts.

In a tough and tense encounter, Julius Fernandes, Shilton Carvalho and Royston Lobo scored one goal apiece to enable Sea View grab the win and progress to the semi-finals. Mumbai Port Trust scored both the goals through Venky D.

Eariler in a women’s 1st round contest, Orion Hockey defeated Sea View SC by 4-1. For Orion Hockey the goals came from Payal Sawant who scored twice and Kelley John and Lynette Lobo with one apiece. Rofina Mascarenhas scored the only goal for Sea View.

In another men’s match, Mumbai Customs subdued Catholic Gymkhana coasting to a 8-3 win. Hement Gethe and Jayesh Jadhav scored a brace each while Errol D’Silva, Stanley Fernandes, Kushal M. and Joshua Vesaokar added one goal each for Customs. Catholic Gym reduced the deficit with goals coming through Karandeep Singh Akshay Jadhav and Dhaval Devkar.

Earlier, Chief Guest, Olympian Viren Rasquinha, presided over the Opening Ceremony and declared the tournament open.

Results – Women’s (1st round): Orion Hockey 4 (Payal Sawant 2, Kelley John, Lynette Lobo) beat Sea View SC 1 (Rofina Mascarenhas).
Men’s (1st round): Mumbai Customs 8 (Hement Gethe 2, Jayesh Jadhav 2, Errol D’Silva, Stanley Fernandes, Kushal M., Joshua Vesaokar) beat Catholic Gymkhana 3 (Karandeep Singh Negi, Akshay Jadhav, Dhaval Devkar).
Sea View SC 3 (Julius Fernandes, Shilton Carvalho, Royston Lobo) beat Mumbai Port Trust 2 (Venky D. 2).
