Fourteen-year-old schoolgirl Naishaa Bhatoye showed good temperament and crafty skills and sailed smoothly to a quick 15-2, 15-3 win against Anvi Kakade in a Women’s singles pre-quarter-final match of the CCI-GMBA District Badminton Championship, jointly organized by the Cricket Club of India (CCI) and Greater Mumbai Badminton Association (GMBA).
In the quarter-final round, Naishaa runs into second seed Kareena Madan, who easily defeated Salenaa Bhombal 15-7, 15-2. Top-seed Riya Arolkar, also enjoyed an easy outing against Akhila Meka, coasting to a 15-4, 15-5 win.
Meanwhile, in the men’s competition Nihar Kelkar and Satyasheel Kulkarni worked hard to overcome the spirited challenge from Manjunath Chavan and Daras Nadar respectively to advance into men’s singles quarter-final. In well-contested last 16 matches, Nihar held his nerves to defeat Manjunath 15-10, 13-15, and 15-13. On the side court, Satyasheel also faced a strong fight from Daras but managed to record a 15-9, 13-15, and 15-9 win.
The top two men’s seeds Viplav Kuvale and Yash Tiwari brooked little opposition from Pranav Shah and Meet Shah respectively to book their place in the last eight. The number one seed Vilpav strolled past Pranav, winning at 15-6, 15-2, while Yash prevailed over Meet registering a 15-6, 15-7 victory. Third seed Viraj Kuvale also progressed to the quarter-finals defeating Sahil Gurbuxani 15-3, 15-7.
Meanwhile in other last 16 matches, Siddhesh Raut also had a great day and eased past Srikant Rai posting a straight games 15-5, 15-9 win, while Ruturaj Rathore got the better of William Arroll scripting a 15-4, 15-12 victory. Ameya Nakashe after encountering initial resistance from Piyush Kamble went on to record a 15-14, 15-6 win to also advance to the quarter-finals.
