Fancied Central Railway will take on India Rush HC Grey in the opening match, a Men’s Open Pool-B fixture, of the inaugural ‘Savio Super 5s’ hockey tournament, organized by the Savio Hockey Club & Academy (SHC&A), Andheri under the auspices of Hockey Maharashtra, and to be played at the St. Dominic Savio High School ground, Andheri (East) on Friday November 19, 2021.
Mumbai Customs, Union Bank of India, Bombay Republicans ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams and Sea View SC are the strong contenders among the 16 men’s teams that will vie for the top honours. Two outstation outfits, Hockey Nashik and Champion Training Centre will also be seen in action.
Western Railway, Central Railway, Hockey Pune and Hockey Nashik are some of the prominent teams that are participating in the women’s competition.
There will also be a Veterans (40-45 years and above) and a Boys’ under-16 tournaments. The format will be a league-cum-knockout basis.
Besides handsome trophies the winners of the Men and Women events will receive a cash award of Rs 35,000 each and the runners-up will get Rs 20,000 each. In the Veterans category, the winners and runners-up will be richer by Rs 25,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. In addition, prizes will be awarded to the ‘Player of the tournament’, Best goalkeeper and Best defender in all three categories.
