Satya Vijaya SC were a determined lot and struck thrice in the second half to outshine Karnataka Sports Club by clinching a deserving 3-0 margin of victory in the final of the 24th Late Shri Ramanath Payyade Football Tournament 2019-2020 and played at the KSA ground, Cross Maidan.
The Satya KVijaya outfit after a hesitant start showed more urgency, but they were unable to have a clear shot on target. In contrast Karnataka Sports Club put a good challenge and created a couple of chances, but Satya Vijaya goalkeeper Yatish Shetty made a couple of timely saves to keep his goal clean.
After a goalless first half, Satya Vijaya played with renewed vigour on resumption and finally broke the deadlock when Dane Pereira scored in the sixth minute of the second session.
Seventeen minutes later, Satya Vijaya’s consistent goal-scorer Tushar Poojary once against showed his excellent finishing skills by netting the second goal.
KSA were unable to fight back and suffered another blow when Pereira capitalized on a defensive lapse to score the third goal in additional time and complete the win and ensure Satya Vijaya emerge champions.
Karnataka SC’s 14-year-old midfielder Azad Ansari won the ‘Best midfielder award and also received a special prize from KSA President Dr. P.V. Shetty as the Most promising youngster of the tournament.
Satya Vijaya have now completed a double having earlier won the Adv A.R. Kudrolli knockout tournament.
In the third-place match, Karnataka Amateurs SC rode on Shravan Shetty’s late goal to defeat Udaya SC by a 1-0 margin.
Results – final: Satya Vijaya SC 3 (Dane Pereira 2, Tushar Poojary) beat Karnataka Sports Club 0.
Third place: Karnataka Amateurs SC 1 (Shravan Shetty) beat Udaya SC 0.
