Bank of Baroda showed great determination and solid fighting qualities as they recovered from an early deficit to turn the tables on Mumbai Customs to record a hard-fought 3-1 win in an exciting Elite (Corporate) Division match of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) League 2022-2023 and played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra.
Striker Sanket Humbe was the star performer for Bank of Baroda as he slammed home the three goals which helped Bank of Baroda seal a come-from-behind win and pocket all the three points. Mumbai Customs against the run of play rocked the Bank of Baroda citadel in the 17th minute through Ajinkya Birajdar’s strike.
Bank of Baroda took that setback in their stride and came back strongly and Hume scored his and the team’s first goal in the 41st minute and ensured his team went into the break on level terms at 1-all.
On resumption, Humbe was once again on target scoring the second goal in the 51st minute to give Bank of Baroda a 2-1 lead and 10 minutes later struck the third goal to complete his hat-trick and seal the win.
In a Super (Corporate) Division encounter, Mumbai Port Trust proved too good for Britacel Silicones SC and sailed to a fluent 7-1 victory. Leading Mumbai Port Trust charge to victory was striker Soymyjit G., who struck a hat-trick of goals while teammates Yash Potdar, Ashish Vishwakarma, Ninad Kamble and Abusafar Karikar chipped in with one apiece to complete the win. Britacel Silicones SC managed to score a consolation goal through Avlon Dias efforts.
