Sangeeta Hemchand of Cricket Club of India (CCI) put up a spirited performance before going down fighting 3-4 to Shubham Randhe of Elphinstone Cricket Club (ECC) in a first round match of the Matunga Gymkhana 6-Red Open Snooker Tournament 2018, sponsored and hosted by Matunga Gymkhana, under the auspices of BSAM and played at the gymkhana’s billiards hall on Tuesday.

The CCI cueist Sangeeta started on a promising note by pocketing the first two frames before Randhe fought back to win the next two to draw level (2-all). Once against Sangeeta found her touch to win the fifth and put herself within distance of finishing off the match. But her rival Randhe clawed his way back and with steady play managed to take the last two frames to snatch a hard-earned 21-30, 13-34, 30-15, 44-30, 20-42, 48-12, 54-29 victory and a place in the second round.

 

In another closely fought encounter, Sanklap Mundhada  of Vashi prevailed over Dhawal Karia of KSC, Mulund pulling off a tight 4-3 (37-28, 50-1, 7-36, 15-53, 25-30, 34-21, 36-27) win.

 

Meanwhile, Krishna Saraf of JVPG had it easy as he cruised past Sameer Karia of Dadar Club 4-0 (51-37, 49-19, 46-23, 27-15) in another first round tie.
