Sameer Bhate wins Triple Crown; Double for Priyanka & Jogesh


Sameer Bhate won Triple Crown in the MMTTC-PTKS organised 1st State Rnking Maters’ Table Tennis tournament , which concluded at Prabodhankar Thackeray Krida Sankul, Vile Parle on Sunday evening. Sameer won his first Gold medal in Men’s 49+ Siongles, defeating Tejas Naik in three straight games. Thereafter partnering Kiran Salian, he won his second crown in Men’s 39+ and above doubles beating Naveen Salian and Rajesh Singh in the finals.

Sameer grabbed his third title in the Men’s 39+ & 49+ Team event, when leading his PTKS team he played captain’s role winning both his singles against T-Lac Nasik players Divyendu C and Dr.Amol Sarode. Sameer received good support from Kiran Salian took the 3rd match against Divyendu. However, Dr. Amol Sarode, who is a Dentist from Nasik, put up a good show in team event, as he defeated seasoned players like  Dr. Nitin Toshniwal from Solapur and Ravi Chopra from Mumbai City.

In the Women’s Singles 39+ event, debutant Priyanka Ghumre from Kalidas Sports Club , Mulund won her first title. A Cyber Security Consulant with WRC Technologies, Priyanka also went on to win her second Gold medal partnering Sunanda Rao in the Women’s 39+ & above team event. Priyanka who has made her comeback to table tennis after 20 years, is trained by Prakash Kelkar at Kalidas Sports Club. She has shown this progress in just 6 months training.

Jogesh Motwani also put up a good show winning a double Gold. Jogesh beat Pramod Desai 3-2 in a closely contested finals to win his first Gold. Earlier in semi finals he had a tough time, before overcoming Sarosh Shroff with 3-2 win. His second Gold came from Men’s 59+ team event, where once again he played a crucial role in his team’s victory.

Current National Champion in Men’s 69+ Ulhas Shirke, repeated his performance defeating reigning World Masters’ Champion Yogesh Desai in a closely fought finals of Men’s 69+ Singles. Ulhas had beaten Deepak Dudhane 3-1 in semi finals. This tournament was played in honour of Ulhas Shirke and A.M. Warunkar for their contribution to the game of Table Tennis and they were felicitated by PTKS Prsident Mr. Arwind Prabhoo.

Other Favourites Shravani Dhapre, Anil Rasam, Suhasini Bakre, Rupesh Gharat, Swati Agharkar and Jagadish Anaready won their respective age group events to win Gold medals. The tournament received grand success with good number of entries The hosts had made good arrangement for free Breakfast and Nutritious lunch on Sunday for all the players.

Men’s 59+ Singles : Jogesh Motwani beat Pramod Desai 11-5, 6-11, 9-11, 11-7 11-9.

Men’s 64+ Singles : Anil Rasam beat Mahesh Shetye 11-3, 9-11, 11-4, 12-10.

Men’s 69+ Singles:  Ulhas Shirke beat Yogesh Desai11-9, 3-11,5-11,11-8, 11-9.

Men’s 74+ Singles : Jagadish Anaready beat Gyan Jain 11-6,11-4,11-9.

Men’s 39 & abobe Doubles : Sameer Bhate & Kiran Salian beat Naveen Salian & Rajesh Singh 13-11, 6-11, 11-5, 11-8.

Men’s 39 & 49+ team finals : PTKS beat T – Lac 3-2 .Sameer Bhate beat Dr. Amol Sarode ; beat Divyendu C. Kiran Salian beat Divyendu C. Naveen Salian lost to Tejas Naik.

Men’s 59+ & Above Finals :  Like MindedTeam SS( Sarosh Shroff, Atul Deshmukh & Jogesh Motwani) beat Like Minded ( Purshottam Markad, Prashant Machave & Nitish Kumar Dhakappa)  3-1 .

Women’s Singles 39+ Finals : Priyanka Ghumre beat Dr. Reena Bhagat 3 -2.

Women’s 49+ Finals : Shravani Dhapre beat Trupti Machave 3-0

Women’s 59+ Finals : Swati Agharkar beat Madhavi Sawant 3-0
