Pune’s Rohan Sakalkar and Thane’s Sagar Patne, both stayed in the fight by pulling through their first round matches in the snooker qualifying round of the BSAM Maharashtra State Senior Snooker & Billiards Selection (leg-2) Championship 2018, and played at the Bombay Gymkhana billiards room.
Sakalkar dropped the first frame but recovered to tame Puneet Thakkar of Mazagon Club 3-1 (15-58, 63-22, 67-35 and 65-52), while Patne who was twice in arrears came from behind to overcome Sharad Sharma of Garware Club House by a fighting 3-2 (29-65, 64-38, 23-56, 43-10 and 57-16) frame scores to advance to the second round.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Gamre (Bombay Gym) and Joseph Menezes (Otters Club), both billiards markers, easily cruised into the second round recording convincing first round victories. Gamre sidelined Hardik Vyas (North India Association) 3-1 (50-18, 49-58, 54-20 and 60-56), while Menezes (Otters Club) lost the first frame but won the bext three to prevail over Luv Boricha (Dadar Club) 3-1 (36-51, 40-31, 60-35 and 60-17).
