Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jaffrey popularly known with his stage name Jagdeep passed away in Mumbai yesterday night at his residence. He was 81. He is survived by his two songs Javed Jafferey and Naved Jafferey. Jagdeep was not keeping well for sometime . He was laid to rest at Shia Kabrastan in Mumbai today. Better known for his character of Soorma Bhopali is super hit Hindi film ‘Sholay’ , he had appeared in more than 400 films. Jagdeep started his film career as a child artist in B. R. Chopra’s film ‘Afsana’ and then went on to do films as a child artist in films like ‘Ab Dilli Door Nahin’ , K. A. Abbas’s ‘Munna’, Guru Dutt’s film ‘Aar Paar’, Bimal Roy’s ‘Do Bigha Zamin’ and AVM’s ‘Hum Panchi Ek Dal Ke’.
Jagdeep had worked with almost all top actors during the period 1951 to 2012. He came into limelight with his superb performance through the character of Murli Manohar in the 1968film ‘Bramhachari’ . He also played Salman Khan’s dad in 1994 film ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ and directed the film ‘Soorma Bhopali’ , playing the important character of a protagonist. But, his memorable character was Soorma Bhopali in the film ‘Sholay’.
