Sad demise of actress Sadhana


Well known hindi film actress Sadhana Shivdasani, popularly known as ‘Sadhana’ passed away today morning, after suffering heart attack. She was 74. For the past several years, Sadhana was living a lonely life, in her Santacruz bungalow. Born in a Sindhi family, in Karachi, during British rule.  Her father was the brother of actor Hari Shivdasani, father of actress Babita.

The family fled from Karachi during the post-Partition riots and settled in Mumbai. Sadhana aspired to be an actress since childhood. Her father helped her to enter films. In 1955 she played a chorus girl in the song in Raj Kapoor’s Shree 420. When she was 15 years old, she was approached by some producers, who had seen her act in a college play. They cast her in India’s first Sindhi film titled Abaana (1958).

Later,  Sashadhar Mukherjee, one of Hindi cinema’s major producers at that time, noticed her. She joined Mukherjee’s acting school along with her debutant co-star Joy Mukherjee and she made her debut in Hindi film ‘Love in Simla’ in 1960 and thereafter she did not look back, till she became successful actress. Sadhna married film maker R.K.Nayyar , who passed away some years ago. Sadhana had  turned a film maker like her husband, with the film ‘Geeta Mera Naam.   Woh Kaun Thii and Waqt were her memorable films, among number of films she performed, with variety of roles.
