S. Srikrishna clinches top honours


 

Tamil Nadu’s young cueist S. Shrikrishna (PSPB) clinched the top honours in the Junior (under-21) boys category of the GSC World Snooker Qualifiers, a BSFI National Selection Tournament, organized by The Sportal.

In the concluding Z-Camp Shrikrishna showed better nerves to overcome National Junior Snooker champion Digvijay Kadian of Haryana snatching a tight 3-2 (38-70, 57-16, 57-39, 09-78 and 68-10) victory in a tense concluding Z-Camp match at the Goregaon Sports Club. Earlier, S. Shrikrishna had to work hard to prevail over Mumbai’s Sumehr Mago scrapping through 3-2 (76-20, 76-22, 06-69, 14-69 and 77-26);

 

Shrikrishna who completed the Z-Camp with 2 wins and 1 defeat, finished at the top with an overall 10,400 (3560 Nationals, 3600 Y-Camp, 3240 Z-Camp) points tally.

Digvijay, who managed only one win against two defeats in the second leg, claimed the second spot with 6916 (4000 Nationals, 2916 Y, 2916 Z) points. Both Shrikrishna and Digvijay will represent India in Junior World Championship.

 

Mumbai youngsters Kreish Gurbaxani (Mah) and Sumehr Mago (Mah) finished third and fourth respectively. Kreish accumulated 9450 (2610, 3240, 3600) points and Sumehr finished with 7225 (1977, 2624, 2624) points.

Kreish Gurbaxani (Mah) beat S. Shrikrishna (PSPB) 3-2 22-73, 01-81(54), 59-18, 107(107)-00, 61(31)-36);

Sumehr Mago (Mah) beat Digvijay Kadian (Har) 3-1 (71-10, 70-45, 26-77, 60-28).
