S.P. Football Academy ride on Valencia’s twin strikes


 

 

S.P. Football Academy, Thane rode on Valencia D’Mello’s twin strikes to charge past Snigmay FC, Pune by a comfortable 4-0 margin in a fourth-round match of the WIFA Women’s Football League played at the Cooperage Football ground. This is the qualifying tournament, for the AIFF Indian Women’s Football League 2021-2022.

Besides Valencia’s fine efforts, VK Srutilalkshmi Rajnish and substitute Crystal Blakely scored a goal each to secure the Thane team’s victory.

 

The Pune outfit put up a solid fighting performance initially and did well to restrict their rivals to just a solitary goal (1-0) lead at the end of the first session.

Attacking midfielder Valencia broke the opponents’ resistance when she beat Snigmay goalkeeper and captain Archita Singh in the 32nd minute to give S.P. Academy a slender advantage.

 

After the change of ends, the Thane girls were more aggressive and dominated play, and scored three more goals during the second session.

 

Srutilalkshmi netted S.P. Academy’s second goal in the 47th minute and 12 minutes later Valencia was again on target with her second goal and provide the Thane team a healthy 3-0 lead.

S.P. Academy continued to exert pressure on the Snigmay citadel and Crystal scored the fourth goal to round off the winning margin.

 

Later in the day, Footie First played with plenty of determination and managed to share honours with fancies Kenkre FC by playing out a goalless draw.
