Films inspired by true incidents have always invited the attention of action film lovers. One such film is ‘Runway 34’ released on Amazon Prime OTT platform, which is produced and directed by Ajay Devgn . This film stars Ajay Devgn, Amitabh Bachchan, Rakul Preet Singh, Akanksha Singh & Boman Irani in lead roles. ‘Runway-34’ is actually inspired by a real incident of 2015, when a Jet Airways flight from Doha to Kochi made an emergency landing and averted a major disaster.
In ‘Runway34’ we find Capt. Vikrant Khanna ( Ajay Devgn) an accomplished pilot preparing for his flight from Dubai to Cochin. Before boarding this flight, he parties the earlier night. His co pilot during this flight -Tanya Albuquerque( Rakul Preet Singh) is more than happy to fly with an experienced and smart pilot like him. But, Capt. Vikrant looks tired during the flight. It is only when due to cyclone and miscommunication, Capt. Vikrant takes his own decision and manages to land the flight, using his expertise with closed eyes in zero visibility. Though there are no casuelties, one old lady passenger dies after being admitted to hospital.However, Capt. Vikrant has to face inquiry before the Airport Accident Investigattion Bureau ( AAIB) headed by Narayan Vedant ( Amitabh Bachchan) .
Almost half of the film we find the inquiry conducted in a systematic manner where we find Narayan Vedant challenging Capt. Vikrant to prove himself not guilty of any negligence. As a director Ajay Devgn has handled the entire plot very well, keeping the audience engaged throughout the film. He has mixed the emotions of every important character very well in this action filled screenplay . The performances of both Ajay and Mr. Bachchan are superb and well supported by other artistes. Good Cinematography by Aseem Bajaj and excellent background music by Amar Mohile are other plus points of this film. Certainly a worth watch film.
