Ritvik and Vrisha emerge supreme


 

The top ranked Ritvik Krishnan and third ranked Vrisha Shah emerged champions winning the boys’ and girls’ under-12 crowns respectively in the Mahavir Prasad Morarka Memorial Maharashtra State Schools Chess Championship 2018, which concluded at the Nehru Centre, Worli.

Ritvik was in outstanding form and finished with an all-win record to clinch the top honours with a 100 percent tally of 9 points. In the concluding round, Ritvik (9 points) outwitted Keenan Menezes (6) with the white pieces on the top board.

 

Eighth ranked Aditya Ramanathan (7.5 points) and 13th ranked Vyankatesh S. Dande (7 points) finished second and third respectively.

 

Vrisha was also unbeaten in the girls competition and dropped half a point when she and top seed Kriti Patel played out a draw in the fourth round. The third ranked Vrisha finished in pole position with 8.5 points. WCM Kriti  (8 points) and ninth ranked Tanvi Borate (6 points) claimed the second and third spots respectively.
