Rising Stars shine brightest, lift Vakola Football crown


Velocity Rising Stars defeated Vakola United 2-1 in the concluding ‘Super Six’ play-off match and emerged champions of the Vakola Football League, supported by Brian Miranda and organized by the Vakola Sports Committee at the St. Anthony’s Church ground, Vakola, Santacruz. Rising Stars who were unbeaten in the play-offs finished at the top with 11 points from 3 wins and 2 draws. Strikers Rohan Shinde and Leon D’Souza were on target for the champions, while Vakola United scored through Jofa D’Souza.

Soccer Raiders, who played out a goalless draw against D-Boys finished runners-up nine points. D-Boys finished third followed by Vakola United, Vakolites SC and Game Kings.

In an inconsequential match, Vakolites SC overcame Game Kings by a narrow 3-2 margin. For Vakolites striker Brendon Pires netted a brace of goals and Kenric Pereira got one, while Alok Chauhan struck both the goals for the losing side.

Results – Super Six (final round matches): Velocity Rising Stars 2 (Rohan Shinde 1, Leon D’Souza 1) beat  Vakola United 1 (Jofa D’Souza 1).

D-Boys 0 drew with Soccer Raiders 0.

Vakolites 3 (Brendon Pires 2, Kenric Pereira 1) beat Game Kings 2 (Alok Chauhan 2).
