Thanks to spirited display by Vishal Wagh and Rhea Rochque, CENSEO Smashers fought back from 1-2 down to a fine 3-2 win over Maverick Squad in their opening tie in the 5th MCF-Badminton Premier League, which got off to an exciting start at Mandpeshwar Civic Federation’s courts here last night. CENSEO, who trailed 1-2 hit back to claim the mixed doubles tie and then Rhea and Vishal combined pretty effectively in the decider to steer them home.

In another tie,fancied Sushant Niddodi led NAMO Warriors fought back in vain as their opponents Maverick Squad, oputplayed them 3-2. It was the defeat of Sushant and Parade at the hands of Akash Wagh and Anup Nerurkar in the opening doubles tie that put Smashers ahead. But they soon neutralized the loss through Prashant Shah who beat Anil Joshi (15-10, 15-11). This was followed by RajendraSapre and Ajay Tantri taking the winning lead with effortless 15-4, 15-4 win over Anil D’Souza and Manoj Joshi. The inconsequential last tie – mixed doubles- saw Umang Gala and Shaurya Jain, narrowing the margin of defeat with 15-5,13-15, 15-10 win over Sanika Bane and Jiffin Thazhath.
