Inspired by striker Reuben D’Souza’s lone striker Western Railway chugged to a narrow 1-0 win against IDBI Bank in a hard-fought Premier Division match of the Mumbai District Football Association (MFA) League 2023-2024 and played at the St. Pius College ground, Goregaon on Friday.
In a match contested between evenly matched outfits, Western Railway grabbed the advantage when their energetic and dashing striker Reuben hit the target in the 27th minute to give his team a 1-0 lead.
Thereafter, Western Railway defended resolutely and denied IDBI Bank attackers from scoring a goal and getting the equalizer.
In a Second Division encounter, Unido FC riding on the fine hat-trick from Durgest Pawar blanked IIT Bombay by a comfortable 3-0 margin at the Neville Dsouza ground, Bandra. The roving and opportunistic striker Durgesh opened the scoring in the fourth minute and then added two more quick goals in the 30th and 33rd minutes to complete the win.
In another match of the same division, SC Chincholi got the better of Mumbai Strikers Youth by a fighting 3-1 margin. Parikshit N., Ashish Yadav and Atharva K. scored a goal each for the winners while Garv Pahuja scored Mumbai Strikers lone goal.
