Bombay Republicans put in another impressive performance, but lack of finishing let them down, and they succumbed to a 2-3 defeat against Central Railway in a Super Division match of the MHAL League 2017-2018, at the MHAL-Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate on Monday afternoon.
Republicans took the lead through Munis Qureshi, who scored both the goals, in the 22nd minute. But the more experienced railway outfit restored parity 10 minute later through Victo Singh. In the second half Central scored two quick goals through Harmeet Singh’s penalty stroke conversion in the 41st minute and Rajendra Pawar converted from a penalty corner four minutes later to seal Central’s second straight win. Qureshi was again on target in the 51st minute to reduce the margin of defeat.
Later in the evening, Indian Navy also recorded their second successive win defeating Maharashtra State Police 4-0. Rana Pratap and Amit Goswami scored two goals each to help the sailor sail to a comfortable victory.
Munis Qureshi of Republicans and Navy’s Amit Goswami were named declared the winners of the ‘Man of the Match’ in their respective matches and both received a cash award of Rs 1,000 each.
On Tuesday, Union Bank of India will clash with Sports Authority of India at 4.00pm.
