Reliance (Raigad) topped the 4-team invitational water-polo league with unblemished 3-0 record to win the GMAAA-MLWB 4-Team Invitational Water Polo League held at Maharashtra Labour Welfare Board’s swimming pool at Prabhadevi (Elphinstone Road) today. This was Reliance second title so far, having earlier won the YMCA Invitational league last month.
In a well-fought tie Reliance beat Maharashtra Police 8-4, with Piyush Suryavanshi netting four goals – all in the second quarter. He was well supported by Sarang Vaidya, who found the target twice in the third and once in the last quarter. In fact, Sarang was also top scorer in the earlier YMCA tourney.
Earlier, Reliance defeated Deccan Gymkhana 10-4, followed by defeating hosts MLWB 10-5. However, hosts MLWB did well to thrashed Deecan Gymkhana 11-5, but tied with Maharashtra Police 8-8. Deccan Gymkhana finished at the bottom.
