RCF win Senior Div Hockey title


Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers (RCF) produced a strong, fighting performance to turn the tables on Maharashtra State Police (MSP) by scripting an authoritative 4-1 win in the final to clinch the Senior Division title of the MHAL (Mumbai Hockey Association Limited) League – 2015 and played at the MHAL Stadium, Churchgate on Tuesday. For RCF Rajendra Pawar got a brace while Mayur Patil and Shahbaz Shaikh scored one each. Satyajit Samat scored the only goal for MSP.

In an engrossing summit clash, the state cops made a positive start by taking a third minute lead with Satyajit Samant finding the net. But the young and enterprising RCF outfit replied back strongly and earned a penalty stroke which was successfully converted by Mayur Patil in the 23rd minute as both the teams went into the break on level terms at 1-all.

After switching ends, RCF returned with renewed enthusiasm and struck three field goals during the second period to run away with the match. Rajendra Pawar netted two of those goals and Shahbaz Shaikh one to seal the victory.

The RCF team, were presented with the Senior Division Trophy and the top cash prize of Rs 50,000 by MHAL President, Shri Mangha Singh Bakshi, while MSP received the runners-up trophy and the cash award of Rs 30,000.
