Razmi bros qualify for main draw


 

The young Razmi brothers, 16-year-old Rayaan and 13-year-old Shahyan, both of Elphinstone Cricket Club showed great character and recorded creditable wins in their respective second qualifying round matches and progressed to the main draw of the Senior Billiards event of the BSAM Maharashtra State Senior Snooker & Billiards Selection (leg-2) Championship 2018 played at the Bombay Gymkhana.

The Maharastra junior No 1 billiards & snooker player Rayaan, fought back strongly after losing the first frame to tame Nikhil Saigal of Khar Gymkhana 3-1 (85-100, 100-80, 100-88, 100(38)-59).

 

In contrast the younger brother Shahyan, exhibited plenty of resilience and excellent fighting qualities as he rallied to overcome Manav Panchal of Malabar Hill Club in five keenly contested frames, winning by a tight 3-2 margin. Shahyan was not overawed by his senior and experienced opponent Panchal and with a cool composed approach he did well to turn things around. Panchal narrowly won the first frame before Shahyan came up with a tidy break of 35 to win the second to level scores. But, the seasoned Panchal, with some calculated play won the third to regain the lead. However, the young Shahyan displaying a steely resolve and loads of determination pocketed the last two frames to snatch a well-deserved 94-100, 100-73, 77-100, 100-72 and 100-85 victory.

 

Former champion Arun Agrawal of Matunga Gymkhana had a relaxed time as he outplayed Shubham Randhe of Elphinstone CC, coasting to comfortable 3-0 (100-56, 100-52, 100-24) win to advance to the next phase of the competition.

 

Meanwhile, Sparsh Pherwani of Cricket Club of India was on song and with a half century effort of 55 in the second frame rallied to overcome Manan Shah (MHC) 3-0 (91-100, 100-57, 100-60, 100-35);
