Rayaan’s timely efforts help Dragons advance

Radio Club’s young talented cueist Rayaan Razmi came up with the goods when it mattered most by winning both his frames, which enabled Radio ‘Dragons’ snatch a crucial 3-2 away win against Dombivali Gymkhana’s DG ‘Warriors’ in the concluding Section-P league match during the third week of the Billiards & Snooker of Maharashtra organized Otters-BSAM Mumbai Snooker League 2019.

This was Dragons second win in the three-team group and with the two points earned they finished with four points to grab the second position behind Santacruz Gymkhana’s team Sunrisers, who with seven points occupied the top spot. Both Sunrisers and Dragons advanced to the round of 32.

Rayaan had a dismal run in the home encounter and suffered defeats in both the frames he played. The Dombivali side grabbed a 3-1 win.

However, in the away tie, Dragons riding on the brilliance of Rayaan who compiled two substantial breaks of 46 and an unfinished 56 run won the match 3-2.

Radio Club’s Suraj Chhabria (+45) defeated Ashish Jain (+55) 100-91 in the first frame before Rayaan (+20) produced a neat break of 46 to outclass Warriors’ captain Kiran Chedda (+45) 101-59 in the second frame and extend the lead.

However, Radio Club’s doubles pairing of Shahyan Razmi and Anuj Mahajan (+20) lost to Domnic Parappilly and Vinay Pethkar (+33) 58-89 and later in the fourth frame, Chhabria was unable to maintain his winning form and lost to Jain 70-103 as Warriors drew level at 2-2.

Faced with a daunting task Rayaan came out with flying colours. He showed great temperament and coolly compiled the half century break as he came from behind to seal a 107-71 win over Chedda in the crucial deciding frame and secure Dragons’ victory.
