Both HSBC India and Bombay Gymkhana have a rich heritage in the country. Founded in 1853, HSBC completed 170 years in India while Bombay Gymkhana, founded in 1875, is set to complete its 150 years in the country. As a precursor to its 150th anniversary in 2025, Bombay Gymkhana aims to spread awareness on Mumbai heritage through HSBC Bombay Gymkhana Run.
The much-anticipated HSBC Bombay Gymkhana run, which is expected to witness over 2,000 participants, will be flagged off by Former Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri, Sandeep Batra, Head, Wealth and Personal Banking, HSBC India and Sanjiv Saran Mehra, President, Bombay Gymkhana.
To promote the South Mumbai heritage, the route of the run is specially curated along New Marine Lines, Opera House, Oval Maidan and Bombay High Court which are home to Mumbai’s rich cluster of 19th-century Victorian buildings and 20th- century Art Deco buildings.
According to Sanjiv Saran Mehra, President, Bombay Gymkhana, “The object of the run is to spread awareness about fitness besides highlighting the heritage areas of South Mumbai during the course of the route. Besides, it also serves as an outreach to the community with participation open to the general public as well.” At heart, Bombay Gymkhana is a sporting institution and has been host to numerous iconic sporting events over the years.
On the first-ever HSBC Bombay Gymkhana Run, Sandeep Batra, Head, Wealth and Personal Banking, HSBC India, said, “The HSBC India Headquarters in Fort is one of the art deco buildings in the Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensembles of Mumbai inscribed on the World Heritage List in 2018. To promote our rich heritage and history of Mumbai through fitness, we are delighted to partner with Bombay Gymkhana and extend our support. HSBC is committed to opening up a world of opportunity in the country.”
The event will kick off from Bombay Gymkhana (Mahatma Gandhi Road) at 6:30 am for the 10K run and at 6:50 am for 3K run. The reporting time for the runners is 5:30 am and the prize distribution will be held at 8 am.
