‘Raja’ overcomes the odds to defeat Krishnan


 

Matunga Gymkhana’s V. Subramanian stricken by polio and without vision in one eye proved that if you have the willpower and ability you can overcome all odds. On the eve of ‘World Disability Day’, Subramanian, popularly known as ‘Raja’ in the cue sports fraternity demonstrated this in ample measure as he scored a comfortable win against Chembur Gymkhana’s Sekkar Krishnan in a Group-C league match of the Chembur Gymkhana Handicap Billiards Tournament 2018, at the Chembur Gymkhana billiards hall on Sunday.

Raja playing with a massive handicap of -350 came out guns blazing and sidelined Sekhar 200-110 in the race-to-200 points match. He had a good roll of the balls and constructed breaks of 106 and 93 as he wiped out his handicap and then produced a neat run of 60 before signing off with a superb unfinished run of 117 to secure his victory.

 

Meanwhile in Group-H matches, Arun Agrawal of Matunga Gymkhana and his son Aditya comfortably won their respective matches.

 

Arun (-375) beat the challenge from young Kreishh Gurbaxani of Khar Gymkhana (-225) and raced to a 200-8 victory in. The experienced Arun rolled in breaks of 131, 50, 48 and 55, while Kreishh struggled to find his form and rhythm and could only manage to score eight points after covering his handicap.

 

Aditya was quite consistent with substantial efforts of 124, 77, 76, 47 and 56 went on to record a convincing 200-97 win against Sahil Kakkad (-70) of Khar Gymkhana.

Group-G: Rovin D’Souza (Hindu Gym, -190) beat Chandresh Shaj (JVPG, -150) 200-42;

 

Group-H: Arun Agrawal (Matunga GYm, -375) beat Kreishh Gurbaxani (Khar Gym, -225) 200-08;

 

Aditya Agrawal (Hindu Gym, -375) beat Sahil Kakkad (-70) 200-97.
