Raj scores two goals in Pune’s narrow 3-2 win


Pune Veterans riding on Rajeev Raj’s twin striker managed to get the better of Tarun Sporting by a fighting 3-2 margin in a Veterans’ League match of the Mumbai Football Association (MFA) League 2022-2023 and played at the Neville D’Souza ground, Bandra.

The opportunistic striker Raj struck two quick goals in the ninth and 13th minutes to give the Pune team a 2-0 advantage. Tarun Sporting did well to cut the deficit with Santosh Chavan scoring their first goal in the 15th minute and going into the break trailing 1-2.

In the second half, the Pune team scored their third goal in the final minutes before his teammate Satish Patel scored an own goal during injury period.

Earlier, Black Wings Offshoots FC proved too good and tamed Spartans Bombay Tigers by charging to a 5-0 win. Imran Shaikhnag, Ramesh K., Satyajit Dukal, Fredrick Ignatius and Anil D’Souza scored a goal each to complete Black Wings victory.

In another well-contested match, Mumbai Knights got the better of Madanpura SC by a 3-1 margin. Lawrence Dias scored two goals and Thomachan Jo got one for the winners while Zulfikar Malbari scored the lone goal for the losing side.
