Rahul kadam,Sharvari Parulekar shine; 7 new meet records


Rahul Kadam  of Ryan International Club and Sharvari Parulekar of Udyachal, Vikhroli, won individual honours on a day when seven new meet records were established  in the 3rd Five-District Open  Track  and Field Championships, organized by India Masters Athletics, at the University Stadium. With  2500 athletes from Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburbs, Thane, Navi Mumbai and Palghar districts  taking part, the meet produced some impressive performances with seven new meet records were set.

Winners in the various categories pose witeh the chief guest D.Shekhar, ex-international basketball player and coach and  Gerald D’Souza, the Secretary General, Indian Masters Athletics, the organisers of the Five-District Track & Field Championships at the University Stadium.

Rahul did win gold in 100m, 200m and 400m events, but none of his efforts could improve the old marks. While Sharvari was the only among individual winners, who figured among those who created  seven  new meet marks.  Sharvari had won the long jump, 100m hurdles and the record-breaking triple jump events.

The record-breaking winners were:

MEN: Javlin Throw: Rohit Chavan (Track & Field Masters)- 60.31 mts and Syham Singh (IIT Bombay (Powai)- 55.10 mts). – (OR- 54.55 mts)

GIRLS : U-18: Triple Jump: Sharvari Parulekar (Udayachal, Vikhroli) – 11.17 mts (OR- 10.38 mts). Shot Put: Poorna Raorane (VPM SC) – 15.30 mts (OR-12.77 mts).

BOYS:  U-20: Triple Jump: Krishna Singh (Universal SC)– 14.54 mts (OR-13.24 mts). U-18 High Jump: Rajwant Gupta (SAI, Kandivali) – 1.85 mts  (OR- 1.80 mts). 3000m: Rohit Mandavkar (Achievers SC) – 9:48.84 secs (OR- 9:59.1 secs).

The individual and overall champions were:

BOYS: (U-10): Atharva Bhoir (Achievers SC) – 10 pts; U-12: Neel Kasar (VGPM SC)- 15 pts;U-14:Riday Juna (Track & Field Masters) – 13 pts; U-16: Nish Mehta (Ryan Int.) – 13 pts; U-18: Nazir Abdul (NMSA) – m11 pts; U-20: Rahul Kadam (Ryan Int  – 11 pts. MEN: Harsh Rana (Sprinters SC) – 15 pts.

Girls:U-10: Shalvi Mehta (VPM SC) – 15 pts; U-12: Isha Ramteke (Track & Field Masters) – 11 pts; U-14: Crystl Vadakel (Holy Cross, Thane) – 14 pts; U-16: Pranjali Patil (Udyachal, Vikhroli) – 13 pts; U-18: Sharvari Parulekar (Udyachal, Vikhroli) – 15 pts;  U-20: Akshaya  Jadyar (Seven Stars SC) and Amruta Gavid (Track & Field Masters – 10 pts each.

Team championship winners: BOYS: Ryan Int. Club – 113 pts; GIRLS: Holy Cross,Thane – 51 pts; MEN: Sprinters SC – 19 pts; Women: Achievers SC – 22 pts. Overall champions – Ryan Int. Club – 139 pts.
