Raadnya Apte impressive showing with the bat by smashing 11 runs in the ‘Super’ over helped St. Mary’s ICSE (Mazagon) overcome Cathedral & John Connon (Fort) in the boys’ under-16 semi-final of the inaugural Bombay Gymkhana cricket tournament, played under floodlights at the Bombay Gymkhana grounds.
St. May’s batting first were dismissed for 81 in 20 overs. Raadnya Apte top-scored with 48 runs while the other St. Mary’s batsmen fell cheaply to the bowling of Amay Sanghvi (5 for 6) and Arnav Bakshi (2 for 13).
Defending a modest total, St. Mary’s bowlers were a disciplined lot with Raahib Fatehi (3 for 20), Harsh Sonawala (2 for 14) and Mir Tawde (2 for 13) picking up the Cathedral wickets and restrict tem to 81 for 8 wickets and force a tie.
In the ‘Super’ over Cathedral who batted first scored 11 runs and later Raadnya hit 11 runs as St. Mary’s scored 12 runs without losing a wicket and won the match to set up clash with Dhirubhai Ambani in the final.
