Pune’s Neil Mulye & TSTTA’s Arnav Karnavar win boys U-17, U-21 titles


 

Pune’s upcoming paddler Neil Mulye and Arnav Karnavar of TSTTA, Mumbai won the boys’ under-17 and under-21 singles title respectively in the RYP-Dr. Ramesh Yashwant Prabhoo Memorial 1st Maharashtra State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2021-2022, conducted by TSTTA under the auspices of the MSTTA and played at the Prabodhankar Thackeray Krida Sankul, Vile Parle late Tuesday evening.

Neil playing confidently was in complete control and called the shots against local lad Jash Modi to register a comfortable 11-6, 8-11, 12-10, 11-8 and 11-3 victory and to clinch the under-17 gold medal.

 

On an adjacent table, Arnav got the better of his teammate Maanav Shah winning the all-TSTTA final in six games with the match scores reading 11-7, 13-11, 12-10, 4-11, 8-11 and 11-5.

Earlier in the under-17 semi-finals, Jash outplayed Kolhapur’s Anish Sontakke charging to a quick 11-5, 11-4, 11-9 and 11-8 victory, in contrast the Pune paddler Neil had to stave off a strong challenge from Thane’s Rohan Dani before pulling through at 9-11, 11-4, 15-13, 11-8, 7-11, 7-11 and 11-3.

 

The boys’ under-21 encounters witnessed contrasting results. While TSTTA’s Arnav Karnavar tamed Rajat Toraskar winning in straight games at 11-3, 11-8, 11-8 and 11-7, Maanav Shah and Sharveya Samant both representing TSTTA were engaged in keen tussle before the former managed to scrape through winning at 13-11, 11-8, 7-11, 13-11, 7-11 and 11-7.

Neil Mulye (PNA) beat Rohan Dani (THN) 9-11, 11-4, 15-13, 11-8, 7-11, 7-11, 11-3.

Finals: Neil Mulye (PNA) beat Jash Modi (TSTTA) 11-6, 8-11, 12-10, 11-8, 11-3.

Boys’ under-21 – Semi-finals: Arnav Karnavar (TSTTA) beat Rajat Toraskar 11-3, 11-8, 11-8, 11-7;

Maanav Shah (TSTTA) beat Sharveya Samant (TSTTA) 13-11, 11-8, 7-11, 13-11, 7-11, 11-7.
