Pune lads down Mumbai to emerge champs

Pune District emerged champions dethroning champions Mumbai District 6-4 via the penalty shootout tie-breaker in the Sub-Juniors boys’ final of the WIFA Inter-District Football Championship 2019, hosted by the Jalgaon District Football Association (JDFA). The match finished in a 2-all draw and Pune won 4-2 on penalties.

 

Pune took the lead through Tushar Durga’s strike in the very second minute. But, Mumbai fought back and Aryan Mahadeshwar scored the equalizer in the 21st minute before Craig Salve put Mumbai in from with a 55th minute goal. However, Mumbai’s joy was shortlived a Pune restored partiy with Rajwardhan Patil scorind their second goal in the next minute.

 

In the tie-breaker the Pune lads showed better nerves and converted through Venkat Navin. Rajwardhan, Usman Khan and Tushar. Mumbai could on score two through Yohana Martin and Mohd. Jaffer Mansoori, while Craig and Mohd. Kaif Ansari failed to convert.

 

Venkat Navin (Pune) was later declared ‘Player of the final’.

 

Results (finals): Pune District – 2 (Tushar Durga 2), Venkat Navin 2, Rajwardhan Patil, Usman Khan) beat Mumbai District 4 (Aryan Mahadeshwar, Craig Salve, Yohana Martin, Mohd. Jaffer Mansoori).
