Sixteen leading cricket clubs from the city will be competing for the top honours in the 72nd Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2019-20, which commences from Saturday, November 16, 2019. Initially the matches will be played on a league basis over five weekends, and at various cricket grounds in Mumbai. The Eagle Thane Strikers are the sponsors this coveted tournament this season.
Shri. Sanjay Barve, Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, who is also the Chairman of this tournament will inaugurate this prestigious tournament on Saturday, November 16 at 12.15 pm at P.J. Hindu Gymkhana ground, Marine Drive.
The participating teams are: Mumbai Police, M.C.A. Colts, Sponsors XI (Eagle Thane Strikers), Parsee Gymkhana, P.J. Hindu Gymkhana, Islam Gymkhana, Cricket Club of India, Bombay Gymkhana, New Hind Sporting Club, Payyade Sports Club, MIG Cricket Club, National CC, Parkophene Cricketers, Karnatak Sporting Association, Shivaji Park Gymkhana and Sind Sports Club.
The 16 teams have been divided into four groups. The league matches will be of 70 overs duration. The topper of each group will be qualify for the semi-finals and the winners will contest the finals. The finals will be a three-day match of 2 innings. The first inning will be of 90 over’s and the second innings will be of 40 overs.
All the Matches are to be played as per the New Model Rules of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
