PMC Bank-GTB Hockey from Sept 11


 

The Mumbai Hockey Association Limited (MHAL) will be conducting the 13th PMC Bank-Guru Tegh Bahadur Gold Cup All India Hockey Tournament MHAL-Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate from September 11 to 19, 2017.

 

The 13th edition of the tournament, is being sponsored by Punjab & Maharashtra Cooperative (PCM) Bank and organized under the auspices of Hockey India.

 

A total of top eight teams from the country and Mumbai will fight it out for the top honours and the handsome prize-money in this competition. The initial phase will be played on a round-robin league basis. The eight teams have been divided into two groups of four each and the top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals to be played on Monday, September 18. The grand finale is scheduled to be played on Tuesday, September 19.

 

The participating outstation teams are Indian Oil, BPCL, South Central Railway, Punjab Police and Army XI, while the local challengers include Indian Navy, Central Railway and MHAL President’s XI.

 

Last year’s champions Western Railway and runners-up Punjab National Bank will not be participating as their teams are depleted with injuries to several of their key players.

 

Hockey India has deputed 12 officials, including four from Mumbai to officiate and ensure the smooth conduct of this tournament.  Mahesh Kumar of Indian Railways, Delhi has been appointed as the Tournament Director, while G. Harsha Vardhan, Andhra Pradesh is the Umipre’s Manager. The Technical Officer is Arnold Xavier, Railways, Mumbai.

 

The Groupings – Group-A: BPCL, South Central Railway, Punjab Police and Indian Navy.

 

Group-B: Indian Oil, Army XI, Central Railway and MHAL President’s XI.
