Hosts PM Hindu Bath came out triumphant against Police Swimming Pool 8-4 in the fourth and deciding quarter after both were locked at 4-4 at the end of third quarter in the GMAAA water polo League, hosted by PM Bath at their pool at Chowpatty here last night. They take on favourites Western Railways in the final league tie tonight. Western, after beating Police Swimming Pool, received a walkover from the Rest of Mumbai. The hosts’ women outfit, too, will face MGMO (Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Olympic Pool) prior to the men’s final tie.
Both PMH Bath and PSP were on the attack right from the first quarter. After scoring early in the first quarter, PM Bath received a jolt soon after when Rakesh Patil sent the ball home from the right flank. But the hosts added another through Aditya Vora to lead 2-1 at the end of first quarter. However, both were unable to find the target though Sandeep Raorane could add the lone goal in the second quarter to make it 2-all. The third quarter was the best one as both attacked relentlessly, resulting in both sides going into the fourth and deciding quarter with honours even at 4-4. It was the last deciding quarter that saw PMH Bath taking an upper hand to score four more goals to deflate PSP’s hopes. Aditya Vora, Ameya Singh, Rucit Parekh and Mohnish Patel shared the spoils with two goals each. For PSP Rakesh Patil netted three goals.
Results: PM Hindu Bath 8 (Aditya Vora, Ameya Singh, Rucit Parekh and Mohnish Patel – 2 each) bt PSP 4 ( Pakesh Patil 3).
