Pillai (Panvel) oust Rizvi in tie-breaker


Panvel’s Pillai College held fancied    Rizvi College goalless at the regulation time, but then  went on to prevail over Bandra college 4-3 in the tie-breaker to storm into the final ofInter-collegiate football tournament in memory of late Gurdip Singh Anand, being organized at far-flung Al Universal Institute ground at Karjat.

So too the other semifinals between KMC (Panvel) and Kandivali’s Thakur College. Both fought hard, but failed to break the deadlock at full time. In the resultant tie-breaker, KMC found the net thrice, to Thakur’s two.

Earlier, in the quarterfinals, Rizvi, thanks to brace by Manish Reddy, beat Vile Parle’s MMK 2-0; KMC thrashed RKT (Ulhasnagar) 3-0,  Pillai knocked out Hyderabad 4-0 and Thakur (Kanidvali) outplayed Karjat’s Vijay Bhoomi 2-0.

(Semifinals): Pillai College (Panvel) 4  (Yash Dange,Sanjay Lohar, Sahil Bhagwania, Aarambh Kanokar) bt Rizvi College (Bandra) 3 (Abdul Larim,  Gaurav Solanki, Karan Waghmare) 3- via tie-breaker (Full time 0-0) .
