Swaroop Pillai of Thane showed plenty of resilience as he snuffed out the spirited challenge from Sahil Kakad of Khar Gymkhnana to clinch a tense 3-2 frame scores victory in a first round match of the BSAM Grassroot Snooker Challenge 2018 and played at the Matunga Gymkhana billiards room.
The Thane cueists Pillai and Kakad were engaged in a nervy battle as the scores ran close in the all the five frames. However, Pillai’s determination and calmness helped him to pull through by coasting to a 73-63, 43-45, 28-56, 54-36 and 77-38 win to advance to the second round.
In another first round contest, Siddhesh Mulay of Chiplun stormed back after losing the first frame to put it acoss Arun Jadhwani of Chembur Gymkhana by a fluent 3-1 (26-57, 77-39, 54-22, 69-33) victory.
Meanwhile, Garware Club House cueists Devansh Jariwala and Moulik Shah, both enjoyed a successful first round outings. Jariwala tamed Goregaon Sports Club’s Suresh Mahadik 3-1 (36-48, 70-61, 66-24, 58-13), while Shah showed solid fighting spirit to overcome Rohan Jain of Mandpeshwar Civic Foundation 3-2 (40-48, 60-30, 52-17, 37-62, 70-44).
