Payyade Sports Club and Dr. D.Y. Patil Sports Association registered their third successive victories in Group-A and Group-B respectively in the Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. sponsored ‘70th Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament’. Both Payyde and D.Y. Patil having finished with an all-win record topped their respective groups and advanced to the semi-final round.
After bowling out MCA Colts for 150 in 40.2 overs on the opening day of the two-day match, Payyade quite comfortable achieved their target scoring 152 runs for the loss of five wickets in just 29.2 overs at the National CC ground on Sunday. Praful Waghela scored 39 runs to see Payyade through.
Meanwhile, D.Y. Patil batted positively and managed to overhaul P.J. Hindu Gymkhana’s massive total of 366 for 9 from their stipulated 70 overs in the first innings. Shubham Ranjane led D.Y. Patil charge with a composed unbeaten knock of 166 runs (Min. 219, Balls-183, 18×4, 4×6) and with good support from Aman Khan (88), Yogesh Takawale (64), Iqbal Abdullah (36 not out) they went on to complete a six-wicket win crossing the victory line scoring score 367 for 4 wickets from 61 overs at the Hindu Gymkhana ground on Sunday.
