Parthav kelkar and Gaurav Parte registered contrasting victories in the men’s semi-finals at the Malabar Hill Club 5-Star MCDTTA table tennis championship 2023, organized under the auspices of the Mumbai City District Table Tennis Association and played at the University Sports Pavilion, Marine Lines. Parthav Kelkar and Tanmay Rane were engaged in a keen contest before the former managed to clinch by carving out a 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, 10-12, and 12-10 victory, while Gaurav Parte enjoyed an easy outing against Mandar Chiplunkar and cruised to a 12-10, 11-6, and 11-7 victory.
In an interesting girl’s under-17 semi-final contest Anshita Tamhankar showed tremendous resilience as she recovered to overcome Amishi Chaddha in five tough games winning at 8-11, 11-9, 10-12, 11-6, and 11-5. In the finals, Anshita will meet Keisha Jhaveri who beat Arpita Borhade 12-10, 11-5, 11-3. Anshita is being trained at Paresh Murekar’s Spinart Academy,MLWB, Elphinstone Road.
The girls’ under-19 semi-finals also witnessed some engrossing tussles for supremacy. Amishi Chaddha put up a gallant fighting display as she came from behind to put it across Arpita Borhade 11-9, 8-11, 10-12, 13-11, and 11-8, while Mugdha Desai staved off a spirited challenge from Keisha Jhaveri posting an 11-4, 11-9, 8-11, and 11-5 victory.
Seasoned campaigner Senhora D’Souza and youngster Manasi Chiplunkar will clash for the women’s crown . In semi-finals matches, Senhora got the better of Shweta Parte Nayak 11-6, 14-12, and 11-2, while Manasi easily defeated Mugdha Desai 11-3, 11-3, and 11-5.
