Skipper and leg break bowler Pradeep Sahu once again produced a fine performance with the ball picking up another five-wicket haul to finish with a match-winning 10 wickets in the match. The captain’s brilliant efforts were responsible in Parkhophene Cricketers defeating Payyade Cricket Club by 96 runs on the third day of their three-day final of the Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd sponsored 71st Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2018, and played at the Mumbai Police Gymkhana ground, Marine Drive on Monday.
Parkhophene Cricketer who had taken a commanding 130 runs first innings lead went on to score 247 for the loss of 6 wickets in their second (40 overs) innings and set Payyade a stiff target of 378 runs to win from 40 overs in the second essay.
For Parkhophene the leading scorer was Suved Parkar (83 runs) and he received good support from Sagar Mishra (44), Prasad Pawar (40) and Adeeb Usmani (32) to help the team put up a strong total. Badre Alam Khan (3/50) was main bowler who got the wickets for Payyade.
Faced with a daunting task, Payyade Sports Club struggled against the Parkhophene bowlers and were dismissed for 281 in 33.5 overs. Vikrant Auti (88), Akhil Herwadkar (42) and Shubham Ranjane (38) were the only batsmen to get some runs. Besides Sahu (5/94), Sagar Mishra (2/46) and Royston Dias (2/71) played excellent supporting roles.
The victorious Parkhophene Cricketers received the glittering Police Shield Trophy and a cash prize of Rs one lakh from Chief Guest, former India captain Sunil Gavaskar, and S.K. Jaiswal, The Commissioner of Police, Greater Mumbai and Chairman and Patron of Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament. The losing finalist Payyade CC were presented with a trophy and a cash award of Rs 50,000.
Prasad Pawar of Parkhophene Cricketers was adjudged as the ‘Man-of-the-tournament’ and received the Late Niranjan Shah trophy and cash prize of Rs 11,000 from Gavaskar
