Pandya,Dave clinch twin victories


 

The top seeds Aditya Pandya and Palkan Dave, both of Mumbai Suburban District clinched two titles each, winning the singles and doubles crowns in the men’s and women’s 35+ events of the Maharashtra Badminton Association Senior State Veteran’s Championship – 2018 organised and co-hosted by Badminton 45 and Bombay Gymkhana and played at the gymkhana’s badminton courts.

In the men’s singles final, Pandya easily defeated Pune’s  Apoorva Javadekar 21-12, 21-10 in 24 minutes, while Dave women also had things much her own way and romped to a 21-16, 21-12 victory against Pune’s Aditi Rode in the women’s final.

 

Earlier, the number one seeded combination of Pandya and Deepak Jaitly of Greater Mumbai staved off a strong challenge from the unseeded Pune pairing of Apoorva Javadekar  and Sachin Mankar pulling through in three well-contested games, winning at 21-10, 22-24 and 21-19 in 53 minutes.

 

In the women’s doubles final, the top seeds Dave and her Pune partner Nupura Gadgil comfortably defeated Kiran Shete of Greater Mumbai and Nisha Rani of Raigad in straight games at 21-12, 21-16 in 24 minutes.

 

In the mixed doubles finals, the top-seeded pair of Sushant Niddodi (Mum Sub) and Nupura Gadgil (Pune) overcame the unseeded duo of Sameer Bhagwat (Pune) and Deanne Rodrigues (Mum Sub) 21-12, 13-21, 21-19 in 54 minutes.

 

Results – Women’s singles (35+) – finals: 1-Palkan Dave (Mum Sub) beat Aditi Rode (Pune) 21-16, 21-12. Semi-finals: 1-Palkan Dave (Mum Sub) beat Komal Chandiramani (Thane) 21-2, 21-6; Aditi Rode (Pune) beat Ssandhya Melash (Pune) 21-16, 19-21, 26-24.

 

Men’s singles (35+) – finals: 1-Aditya Pandya (Mum Sub) beat Apoorva Javadekar (Pune) 21-12, 21-10. Semi-finals: 1-Aditya Pandya (Mum Sub) beat Nikhil Kolhatkar (Mum Sub) 19-18 retired; Apoorva Javadekar (Pune) beat Sushanth Shetty (Mum Sub) 21-14, 21-10.

 

 

Women’s doubles (35+) – finals: 1-Palkan Dave (Mum Sub)/Nupura Gadgil (Pune) beat Kiran Shete (Gr. Mum)/Nisha Rani (Raigad) 21-12, 21-16.

 

Men’s doubles (35+) – finals: 1-Aditya Pandya (Mum Sub)/Deepak Jaitly (Gr. Mum) beat Apoorva Javadekar (Pune)/Sachin Mankar (Pune) 21-10, 22-24, 21-19.
