Medium pacer Yogesh Patil brilliant bowling (8/37) and opener Rohit Pol solid knock of 86 runs (94 balls, 9x4s, 6x6s) was the highlight of Mumbai Police Gymkhana’s convincing 5-wicket win against Sponsors XI-UPL (United Phosphorus Limited) on day-2 of the opening round match of the 75th Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2022-23, and played at the Police Gymkhana ground on Saturday.
UPL Sponsors XI resuming at the overnight score of 173 for 6 wickets, 56 overs, was once again tormented by the guile of Patil, who claimed two more wickets and restrict the rivals to 201 all out in 66.3 overs. Mayur Sanap unbeaten overnight on 45 added 15 more runs scoring 60 runs which lifted UPL score.
In reply, Mumbai Police openers Pol and Kaustubh Pawar 47 runs put together a 98-run association for the first wicket which set the tone for their fluent win. Ruturaj Sane contributed 30 runs while Danish Rainee claimed 2 wickets for 40 runs.
Meanwhile, Century knocks from Pranav Kela 115 runs (160 balls-160, 16x4s) and Siddhant Adhatrao unbeaten 110 runs (133-balls, 9x4s, 2x6s) powered New Hind Sporting Club to a massive total of 300 for 5 wickets in 62 overs against MCA Colts in a Group-B encounter.
