For the past 60 years, P.J.Hindi Gymkahana, Marine Drive, has offered many national and international level players, in different games like Table Tennis, Badminton, Tennis, Cricket & Billiards. The management of the Gymkhana over the years, since the time of late Vijay Merchant, has always encouraged sportspersons, by offering quality playing
conditions and membership to upcoming players.
P.J.’A’ team winners of the Tourney
On sunday, the Table Tennis department hosted a Table Tennis Tourney with a difference. In this unique tourney, 10 players were allowed in each team. The serial no’s 1 to 6 in each team comprised of regular pro TT players, while serial no’s 7 to 10 were amteur players. Every team had to decide three pairs from Sr. No’s 1 to 6 and two pairs from 7 to 10. It was compulsory for every team, to play all their players.

Many prominent players including former international players like Suhas Kulkarni, Nandini Kulkarni, Mahendra Chiplunkar and former state & national level players like Prakash Kelkar, Sanjay Nemlekar, Jayant Kulkarni, Neeta Kulkarni, Prakash Punjabi, Ulhas Shirke along with young upcoming TT players like Shubham Ambre, Om Lotlikar, Saurabh Mohite, Rohan Mohite, Soham Rane, Sameehan Kulkarni, Prateek Kelkar had taken part in this tournament.
The presence of active award winning players like Sanjay & Abhay Mehta, current veterans’ 64+ National champion Pinakin Sampat and active Gymkhana players like Rajesh Pandit, Himanshu Patwa, J.D. and others had actively participated in this tournament. The performance of amteur players playing for the first time was also worth appreciating.

The winning team ‘A’ led by Mahendra Chiplunkar & Sanjay Nemlekar, scoring maximum points won this league tournament, while Team ‘D’ led by Prakash Punjabi & Nandini Kulkarni were the runners-up in this tournament, which witnessed some good well fought matches.
In absence of TT secretary of the Gymkhana Miten Khatau, who was out of town, the badminton secretary Ketan Pandya and his associate Rajesh Pandit organised this tournament. President of the P.J.Hindu Gymkhana Ramesh panchamatia, secretary Pranav Chikhal & Treasurer Alpesh Dharia were present on the occasion and gave away the prizes to the winners.

After, this function, the Gymkhana felicitated 6 members of the Gymkhana, namely, Mr. Pinakin Sampat, Mr. Suhas Kulkarni, Mr. Jayant Kulkarni, Ms. Neeta Kulkarni, Evergreen Prakash Kelkar & Moonmoon Mukherjee for winning Gold/ silver/Bronze medals for Maharashtra, at the recently conluded National Veterans’ TT Tournament held in Chandigarh.

The Gymkhana also felicitated current asian Billiards Champion and Gymkhana member Dhruv Sitwala , besides felicitating Gymkhana Badminton and tennis teams for their performance and winning medals in local major tournaments, while playing for the Gymkhana team.
