Our Lady of Remedy, Kandivali and St. Anne’s ‘A’, Orlem ground out hard fought wins in their opening round matches of the St Peter’s Youth Centre organised Inter-School (5-a-side) football tournament supported by Mumbai City FC and played at the St. Stanislaus High School grounds, Bandra.
The Kanidvali schoolboys scored a goal each through Rituraj Niwarna and Siddesh Salunke to overcome St. Lawrence, Kandivili 2-1 and advance to the next round. St. Lawrence got their lone goal through Rudra Varun.
St. Anne’s got the better of Christ Church, Byculla 3-2 in an exciting encounter. Clatur Fernandes, Skylar D’Souza and Samarth Tanwaxi contributed with a goal apiece to seal St. Anne’s passage to the second round, while Christ Church struck through Hanzah Kapadia and Yusuf Balwa.
Meanwhile, hosts SPYC Academy proved too strong as they blanked St. Xavier’s, Fort 4-0. Strikers Keon Barnes, Jashay Ramugade, Jaydyn D’Souza and Myron Pesso, all chipped in with one goal each towards SPYC’s win.
