Our Lady of Lourdes ‘B’ (Malad) dished out a solid fighting performance and managed to carve out a narrow 3-2 victory against a spirited Our Lady of Dolours (Wadala) in a Men’s Open third round match of the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana organized 5-a-side Rink football tournament, played under floodlights at the gymkhana’s tennis courts.
For Malad team strikers Saurabh Nikam, Elvin Fernandes and Reuben D’Souza scored a goal each to secure their win while the Wadala side fought bravely and struck two goals through Silvester Serrao and Brendon Fernandes.
In another match Yash Solanki’s twin strikes helped St. Paul’s ‘B’ (Dadar) get the better of St. Joseph’s ‘A’ (Mira Road) by a comfortable 2-0 margin.
St. Blaise ‘A’ (Amboli) riding on Junaid Coutinho’s brace of goals defeated Our Lady of Salvation (Dadar) by a 3-1 margin. Striker Egan Fernandes scored the third goal for the Amboli outfit while Pranit Kadam scored a consolation goal for the Dadar team.
Meanwhile, Astle Pereira’s lone strike was sufficient for St. Anthony’s ‘A’ (Vakola) to overcome Holy Family ‘B’ (Andheri) by a close 1-0 scoreline.
