Ordnance Boys, Ambernath displayed plenty of pluck and determination to emerge champions as they overcame a spirited Hockey Kalyan 2-1 in a thrilling Fourth Division final of the MHAL (Mumbai Hockey Association Limited) League 2016-2017 and played at the MHAL-Mahindra Stadium, Churchgate on Saturday. The Ambernath outfit held a slender 1-0 half-time lead.
In an evenly contested encounter, Ordnance Boys against the run of play managed to grab the advantage when Neela Krishna from a field effort found the net in the 15th minute.
The Kalyan side fought on gamely and did well to find the equalizer immediately after the change of ends with Mithlesh Kubal scoring in the 37th minute.
But, eight minutes later, Ordnance Boys regained the lead with Mhamba A. scoring the second goal from another field effort. Thereafter, Ordnance Boys held on to that lead to finish worthy winners.
Ordnance Boys received the ‘Fourth Division Trophy’ and the winners’ purse of Rs 25,000 from Chief Guest, while the Hockey Kalyan players were presented with the runners-up prize money of Rs 15,000.
Results – Div-IV (final): Ordnance Boys 2 (Neela Krishna, Mhamba A.) beat Hockey Kalyan 1 (Mithlesh Kubal).
