Opener Raghuvanshi cracks solid unbeaten 161 runs


A swashbuckling knock by opening batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi who cracked an unbeaten 161 runs powered Parsee Gymkhana to a convincing 9-wicket win against Victory Cricket Club on the opening day of their two-day semi-final match of the 75th UPL-Police Invitation Shield Cricket Tournament 2022-23, played at the Parsee Gymkhana ground, on Sunday.

In the final, Parsee Gymkhana will take on MIG Cricket Club who defeated Payyade Sports Club on run quotient.

Parsee Gymkhana chasing a modest target faced no problems as they comfortably surpassed the victory margin scoring 275 for the loss of just one wicket in 53.2 overs.

Raghuvanshi batted aggressively and his solid innings came from just 154 balls in 184 minutes and was studded with a whopping 22 boundaries and three sixes. The other batsmen who made solid contributions was Aakarshit Gomel 63 runs and Kevin D’Almeida unbeaten 45 runs which enabled to carry the team through the final. Victory CC’s Shashank Attarde was the only successful bowler who claimed one wicket for 58 runs.

Earlier, Victory CC added a further 23 runs to their overnight total of 249 for 7 wickets and were dismissed for 272 in 68 overs. Yash Nahar 52 runs, Kaushik Chiklikar 47 runs, Jay Bista 46 runs and Shashwat Jagtap 35 runs were the main batter who managed to score some runs. Parsee Gymkhana bowlers Kevin D’Almeida (2/11), Yash Dicholkar (2/76) and Sylvester D’souza (2/77) shared the wickets.

In the other semi-final, Payyade Sports Club  batting first amassed a huge total of 445 for 9 wickets in 70 overs. Sarfaraz Khan 131 runs (104-balls, 17×4, 3×6), Japjeet Randhawa 105 runs (108-balls, 12×4, 5×6) and Shivam Dube 103 runs (81-balls, 13×4, 3×6) were the principal run-scorers. MIG CC bowler Ankush Jaiswal tool 7 wickets for 152 runs and Atharva Ankolekar got 2 for 99 runs.

In reply, MIG Cricket Club reached 402 for 6 wickets in the stipulated 68 overs. Varun Lavande 118 runs (98-balls, 15×4, 5×6) and Vishant More  unbeaten 116 runs (108-balls, 12×4, 1×6), along with Om Keshkamat unbeaten 78 runs lifted the team’s innings which helped them to win on a better run quotient.
