ONGC smoothly sail past W. Rly

Defending champions Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) produced another domineering performance and went on to overcome Western Railway SA by a 4-2 margin in an Elite Division match of the Rustomjee-MDFA League 2018-2019 and played at the Western Railway football ground, Mahalaxmi on Thursday evening.

The oilmen capitalized on their chances to score two goals in each half through Sunil Lohar’s brace and one each from Himanshu Patil and Enoch Cudjoe to complete the win. Western Railway put up a spirited challenge and scored two quick goals in the first session through Somi P.T. and Raju, but they seemed to run out of steam in the second half and ended up on the losing side.

Playing on their home ground, Western Railway showed good intent at the start and put up a strong challenge. Even after Lohar scored in the 24t minute to put ONGC in front, Western made a strong reply and hit the twice in as many minutes to take the lead. Somi scored their first goal in the 36th minute and two minutes later Raju added the second. But, ONGC struck the equalizer just before the break with consistent scorer Patil finding the net in the 44th minute.

ONGC regained the lead when Enoch scored the third goal in the sixth minute of the second period before Lohar scored his second and the team’s fourth goal to round off the winning margin.
