Omkar Torgalkar from Mumbai Suburban District is still matchless. With his wonderful stroke play he not only won the Men’s singles finals of Sudesh Shelar Memorial State Ranking Table Tennis Tournament in Pune yesterday evening, but also won the hearts of hundreds of supporters.
Omkar was in great form in this tournament, as he knocked out hard hitter Ravi Kotian 4-3 in the semi finals and went on to record a memorable 4-0 win over in form and top seed Siddhesh Pande from Thane. Siddhesh however scored a comfortable victory over Mumbai’s Shubham Ambre by dropping just a game in five game battle of the Youth Boys’ Singles final.
The Women’s singles final was all Mumbai affair , as Junior Srushti Hallengadi surprised top seed Divya Deshpande Mahajan. Srushti however lost her Jr. Girls final to Disha Hulawle from Thane district. Another Mumbai player Shaurya Pednekar beat Deepit Patil from Thane , to win the Jr. Boys Singles final. Thane Girl Swastika Ghosh ( Raigad District) won the Youth Girls( U-21) title surprising third seed Shreya Deshpande from Thane 4-2 in the finals.
