Indian cricketer Suresh Raina and Olympian long distance runner Kavita Tungar (nee Raut) unveiled the logo of the 8th Skechers Performance Goa River Marathon, during a press conference on Thursday, to announce the launch of the race. The 42 Kilometre event, which will be run along the pristine blue waters of the Zuari River is being organised by Vasco Sports Club and will be held on 10th December, 2017.
Skechers, is the title sponsor of the Goa River Marathon’ (GRM), which is one of the top 5 marathons of India.
Kavita Tungar, who is one of Skechers Elite Athlete was glad to be the Brand Ambassador of the shoe manufacturer, “Being associated with Skechers Performance has always been a rewarding experience. The brand has helped me to elevate my performance and given me added confidence. It is important to be on top of my running and glad to be participating in the Skechers Performance Goa River Marathon, which has now become a global platform for all the professional athletes for long distance events,” said the Arjuna Awadee Kavita.
Raina, was all praise for Skechers and Vasco Sports Club for organising the marathon. “Skechers has manufactured some very good running shoes. It’s important that the soles are well-cushioned as it would help the athlete avoid injuries. I congratulate Vasco Sports Club for conducting this race annually. I wish them the best and hope they continue to successfully conduct this event.”
Shifting focus from running, Raina mentioned that former Indian coach Anil Kumble was responsible for the success of Kuldeep Yadav after the young bowler’s rapid rise as a match-winning bowler. “Yadav is a product of Anil Kumble. I guess all credit goes to Anil bhai. He worked really hard with him and he has done so much for him,” said Raina.
“I strongly feel that Yadav will change everything in the bowling department. He will become India’s main strike bowler as he has already done well for UP, he’s done well in the U-19 World Cup and you’ll see him shining very soon.”
