NSCI Badminton League to commence from Friday


Some exciting moments and absorbing contests will be witnessed during the second edition of the NSCI Badminton League (NBL), which is scheduled to commence at the NSCI badminton hall, Worli, from Friday, November 11 to Sunday, November 13, 2016. The opening round of matches will start at 9.30 am.

The 3-day NBL is conceptualized by Supriya Devgun, Founder Director of Evolution Sports and co-owner of Solitaire Shuttlers, which is one of the participating team. The event has the blessing of NSCI President, Jayantilal Shah and Hon. Reg. Secretary, Rakesh Malhotra. The tournament is being supported by Yonex Sunrise and the medical partner is Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and Medical Research Institute.

Six franchise-based teams, Solitare Shuttlers, Rajdhani Royal, Roaring Raqueteers, Maverivk Aces, King Shuttlers and Giant Slayers, will be competing for the top-honours in this tournament.

Former Indian badminton star and 9-time National champion Aparna Popat, will be the star attraction and will be representing Rajdhani Royal.

The winning team will receive a handsome cash prize of Rs 75,000 and the runners-up team will earn a cash award of Rs 40,000.

Each team will consist of 15 players, including 2 women and one player over 50 years. Every team will play each other in a tournament round-robin league format. The team with the maximum points, will be declared winner, while the second best points will be the runners-up.

The format of the matches would consist of 5 double rubbers (the second rubber will be mixed doubles). Each rubber will be of best-of-3-games (the first two games would be played over 21 points and the third will be of 15 points.
